Got Your 6 Welcomes Lauren Augustine as Director of Government Relations

U.S. Army veteran to lead group’s empowerment policy efforts

WASHINGTON (February 15, 2017) – The veterans group Got Your 6 today named Lauren Augustine as the organization’s first director of government relations. In her role, she is charged with promoting policy initiatives that will empower veterans to lead a resurgence of community across the nation.

After graduating from Virginia Tech, Augustine enlisted in the U.S. Army, quickly rising to the rank of sergeant, and served 12 months in Iraq with the First Infantry Division. Prior to joining Got Your 6, she was a senior legislative associate for Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America and a legislative representative for the American Federation of Government Employees. In both positions she advocated on behalf of veterans, their families, and the services and benefits provided by the VA.

In recognition of her advocacy work, Augustine was named to the HillVets Top 100 in 2015 and awarded the Excellence by An Up and Coming Practitioner award from the Women in Professional Advocacy in 2016. She was also appointed to the Joint Leadership Council of Veteran Service Organizations for the Commonwealth of Virginia by Governor McAuliffe in 2016. In addition to her advocacy work, Augustine proudly owns and operates a CrossFit gym in Northern Virginia alongside her husband.

“It’s an honor to welcome Lauren to the Got Your 6 team as we work to change the way veterans are portrayed in popular culture, in the media, and now throughout Washington, D.C.” said Bill Rausch, executive director of Got Your 6. “America’s veterans are leaders, team builders, and problem solvers, and no one exemplifies those qualities better than Lauren. Not only is she well respected in D.C. and nationally in the veterans community, she’s a small business owner who knows what it takes to get things done. By promoting a proactive empowerment policy agenda, Lauren will help Got Your 6 continue to support and challenge our veterans as they step up and lead in small towns and big cities across America.”

As director of government relations, Augustine will work collaboratively with Got Your 6’s federal, congressional, and nonprofit Veteran Empowerment Coalition partners. As a nonpartisan organization, the hiring of Augustine caps a productive year for Got Your 6, having highlighted the value of veterans as civic and community leaders, during the 2016 presidential campaign, including at the RNC, DNC, and presidential and vice-presidential debates.
