Meet Our New Executive Director Bill Rausch
Posted February 23, 2016 by Bill Rausch
As I finish out my first month as Executive Director of Got Your 6, I want to take the time to introduce myself.
I grew up in the small town of Marengo, Ohio—the only boy and youngest of four siblings in a working class family. My grandfather served in World War II as an infantryman in the 82nd Airborne Division jumping into Holland during Operation Market Garden, and later fighting in the Battle of the Bulge. While he didn’t talk much about his time in uniform, his pride in his service wasn’t lost on me. My grandfather’s example inspired me to want to lead and serve my country, too. Years later, I was accepted to West Point. And on the day I graduated, I thought of him.
I served more than 10 years in the U.S. Army as a Field Artilleryman and spent most of my active duty career assigned to a Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS) battalion, stationed at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. In May 2006, I deployed to Iraq on a 12-month tour assigned to the Information Operations Task Force. As the end of my tour approached, I volunteered to extend my deployment in support of the Surge. My time in Iraq was powerful and impactful—it shaped who I am today, and since returning home, I’ve been a transitioning veteran.
My transition has taught me first hand the importance of empowerment and community. Because of the organizations I’ve volunteered with, I recognize the power of connecting with our local communities. At Got Your 6, we know veterans are leaders, team builders, and problem solvers who have the unique potential to strengthen our communities. And we partner with 30 veteran empower organizations to do just that. Got Your 6 believes that if citizens understand the full potential of our veterans, we can empower our entire country in ways we haven’t seen in generations. And that starts with you!
I’m proud to now lead the Got Your 6 campaign and its team. Together we will start a resurgence of community across this country by empowering veterans and our citizens.
Meet the rest of the Got Your 6 staff here!
