4th Annual Pat Tillman Leadership Summit
Posted July 18, 2013
Since his death serving with the 75th Ranger Regiment in Afghanistan, Pat Tillman has been described as a selfless patriot, an irrepressible individualist and an iconoclast. In 2004, friends and family established the Pat Tillman Foundation to carry forward his legacy and honor his commitment to service, learning and action. Today, he continues to inspire veterans and civilians alike through his authenticity, drive and deep love for country.
This past weekend, the Pat Tillman Foundation hosted the 4th Annual Pat Tillman Leadership Summit in the heart of Chicago to remember Pat and to celebrate the 290 Tillman Military Scholars who carry on his name. The three-day gathering convened Tillman Military Scholars past and present who embody Pat’s principles and values. Most notably, it brought together fellow Got Your 6 partners committed to empowering veterans and military families including Student Veterans of America, Team Rubicon, The Mission Continues, Team Red White and Blue, and Blue Star Families of America. Altogether, the Summit ignited an honest conversation about collaboration in bridging the civilian-military divide and how Tillman Military Scholars in particular can continue impacting the future of our country through their respective studies in medicine, business, education and more. Over three days of panels and workshops focused on force mobilization, writing and storytelling, business leadership and running for public office. The Summit proved a critical opportunity to exchange ideas on how veterans and military spouses can lead and build stronger communities at home.
At the Pat Tillman Foundation, we realize that we work in honor of Pat, and we honor Pat through our work. As we continue to think of ways to uphold his legacy, we remind ourselves of his willingness to confront challenges while maintaining his individualism. We see this same quality in our 290 Tillman Military Scholars nationwide, and we are confident that this community of individuals will drive the future of our country. Because of this, we have great hope that Pat’s legacy will never fade.
On behalf of the Pat Tillman Foundation, we would like to thank all of our Tillman Military Scholars, veteran partner organizations and sponsors for making the 4th Pat Tillman Leadership Summit such a success. We are already looking forward to next year.
